Daang Kalikasan: The Scenic Road of Mangatarem, Pangasinan

Daang Kalikasan Project

The 14.6-kilometer road linking Mangatarem, Pangasinan and Sta. Cruz, Zambales is expected to be completed by 2021 according to DPWH. It was initiated in 2012 and part of the 5-year road project of the national government. The road once completed will hasten the travel time between the two provinces of Pangasinan and Zambales. Another good benefit of this development is to boost the trade and tourism in the provinces.

Daang Kalikasan already draws attention from tourists not only in Pangasinan and Zambales but also from nearby provinces. Riders, bikers and motorists will certainly love this place given its picturesque mountain ranges. The road is still undergoing construction but passable to all type of vehicle.

Entrance-Free

There is no entrance fee being collected in Daang Kalikasan view deck and its nearby spots.

Nature Tripping

Being with nature is indeed relaxing and refreshing. With Daang Kalikasan’s overlooking views and hill spots, one can enjoy nature without spending and exerting too much effort. Just park your vehicle on the roadside and enjoy the scenic spots right in front of you!

Jam-Packed Weekend

Weekend is a not a perfect choice to visit Daang Kalikasan. Given its instant popularity, this place is jam-packed during weekend. Plan your trip on weekdays to avoid too much noise and crowd.

Open Area, Direct Sun Exposure

It is best to visit Daang Kalikasan before sunrise, early morning hours or late afternoon. The long road is mostly bared so expect direct sun exposure. Bring umbrella, wear cap/hat and, apply sunscreen and bring water with you to keep you hydrated.

Food and Store

There are mini stores and vendors along the way that offer drinks, water and snacks for tourists. We recommend bringing your own food, as the supplies from these sellers are limited.

Cleanliness and Preservation

Daang Kalikasan is originally a roadway not a tourist spot but given its popularity and exquisiteness, it is becoming a tourist-haven. To preserve its beauty, all tourists are expected to act responsibly. Avoid leaving your trash and damage any of the trees or living things around the area.

Temporarily Closed

Daang Kalikasan was temporarily closed to public by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) until the project is completed. This was due to overcrowding and a number of accidents reported in the past weeks. Another reason for its closure is the uncontrollable trash being left by the tourists giving the LGU an headache for cleanups.

How To Get to Daang Kalikasan

  1. From Manila, drive straight to NLEX passing through Bocaue, Plaridel, San Fernando all the way to Tarlac City.
  2. Continue driving to Santa Ignacio, Camiling then San Clemente.
  3. Follow Romulo hi-way straight to Mangatarem until you reach the Daang Kalikasan (Pangasinan – Zambales Connection Road).
